RAPIDS HIRE BEN MOXLEY as 2021 FIELD MANAGER

WATERTOWN, NY -  The Watertown Rapids, proud members of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League proudly announced today the hiring of the next Field Manager Ben Moxley for the 2021 summer season.

Moxley, a native of Oneonta, NY is currently serving his third season as Clarkson University Baseball’s top Assistant Coach during the spring collegiate baseball season. Moxley brings his expansive coaching experience to the Rapids to build off the organization's recent successes. While working with Clarkson, Moxley earned accolades of representing the 2019 Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year and producing three All Liberty League pitchers under his leadership.

Before Clarkson, Moxley earned his stripes with the Oneonta Outlaws and SUNY Brockport following his tenure as a player. The Oneonta Outlaws, also members of the PGCBL and future opponents of the Rapids in 2021 is where Moxley served as the Pitching Coach and Assistant General Manager gaining experience in more than on-field managing. Moxley said, “The PGCBL has become what summer is all about for me. I was lucky enough to play for a championship team in 2015 with Mohawk Valley and have worked under a true coaching legend in Joe Hughes of the Oneonta Outlaws since 2018.”

Moxley on his joining, “I'm honored to be joining the Rapids and become a member of the Watertown community. Being from upstate New York, I've had the pleasure to play and coach against Watertown teams at the Fairgrounds and was always impressed by the community's support for their teams.Coaching at Clarkson for the past three years has given me a great appreciation for the north country community.”

Rapids’ General Manager Nick Czerow is excited to showcase Moxley’s leadership, “Ben is bringing a lot of versatility to the Rapids. From the start you can sense his leadership and drive to develop a successful product on and off the field. I am really impressed with the culture he will bring. I believe he will deliver us an exciting team, and also be a great presence in the community with our players.”

Before entering the coaching world, Moxley capitalized on his playing career at SUNY Brockport under coach Jim Kane as a pitcher. Moxley also played at SUNY Cortland, Siena College, and Herkimer College where their team finished 3rd in the 2014 Junior College World Series. Moxley earned attention as the New York State Class B Player of the Year on an Oneonta High School squad that went on to win the 2012 NYS Baseball Championship.

Moxley has begun finalizing the roster for the 2021 Rapids season, adding talent from all across the United States to convene in Watertown, New York in late May. He had a chance to get acquainted with some of the existing team earlier this week, “I think the community will really enjoy this roster, we have a bunch of blue collar work ethic type guys that just want to compete and get better as they chase their goals of being professional ball players.”

The Rapids’ former Field Manager John Rizzo and the club have parted ways following his hiring in a full-time position with a university program.

The Watertown Rapids are looking forward to opening their doors once again for the 2021 summer collegiate baseball season after having to cancel the 2020 season due to COVID-19 protocols. The Rapids look to take the field in early June 2021.
