Rapids October 2018 Community Recap
The Watertown Rapids may not have any games scheduled until the end of May 2019, but the team has made it a point to remain active in the community throughout the off-season. Rapids’ General Manager Brandon Noble and Assistant General Manager Madeline Hoyle had a busy October and look to keep the momentum going during the winter.
During the weekend of October 6th and 7th, representatives from teams in the PGCBL gathered in Syracuse to discuss how 2018 went and plans for 2019. Items discussed included promotional idea sharing, umpires, league rules, and scheduling. League and team officials left the meetings encouraged and excited for what 2019 will bring.
Sackets Harbor Harvest Festival
Thanks to the Sackets Harbor Chamber of Commerce, the Rapids had a table set up for the Harvest Festival on Sunday the 7th. Noble and Hoyle sold Rapids merchandise, interacted with community members, and shared information on the team’s inaugural season.
City of Watertown Harvest Festival
There were many activities for kids and families to enjoy at Thompson Park on Saturday the 13th. One of the activities included a bunting station where kids could use a Rapids bat to bunt baseball into targets. Each kid left with a Rapids logoed squish ball. The team also promoted the opportunity for families to host a player or multiple players during the summer.
7th Annual Clayton Punkin’ Chunkin’
The Rapids attended the well known Punkin’ Chunkin’ on Saturday the 20th. Vendors, including the Rapids, had the opportunity to set up a table along Riverside Dr. as thousands of visitors stopped by to shop, eat some great food, and watch pumpkins get catapulted into the St. Lawrence River.
Lyme Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner
Rapids’ owner Mike Schell and GM Brandon Noble had the honor of attending the Lyme Chamber of Commerce annual dinner on Tuesday night the 23rd. Local business owners and community leaders gathered for a nice dinner and offered Schell and Noble the opportunity to speak. Topics included the 2018 season, the team’s involvement with the Chaumont community, and how the team can continue to build their relationship with this great community.
Press Conference - New Field Manager
In a press conference held at Jefferson Community College on Tuesday the 30th, the Rapids announced Mike Wood as the team’s new Field Manager. Wood began his collegiate playing career at JCC and is currently the assistant coach at St. Lawrence University. Community members and media gathered to welcome Mike. The Rapids are members of the highly touted Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, playing their home games at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds.
